What types of whales can I see?
The most common sightings include orca (killer) whales, humpback whales, and occasionally gray and minke whales. We also frequently spot sea lions, seals, porpoises, and marine birds.
When is the best time of year to go whale watching?
The season runs from April to October, with the highest chances of sightings between May and September. Every trip is different, but sightings are frequent throughout the season.
How long is the tour?
Tours typically last 3 to 5 hours, depending on the location of the whales on the day of your tour.
Where does the tour depart from?
Tours depart from Steveston Village in Richmond, approximately 30‚ to 40 minutes south of downtown Vancouver. Shuttle transportation is available from Vancouver (with advance booking).
What if the weather is bad?
Tours run rain or shine! Our boats are equipped with heated cabins and outdoor viewing decks. In the rare case of severe weather, tours may be canceled and rebooked.
What should I wear?
Dress in layers, and bring a waterproof jacket. It’s always cooler on the water. Vancouver Whale Watch provides full-body cruiser suits for warmth and safety.
What if we don't see any whales?
Vancouver Whale Watch is proud to have a high sighting success rate, but in the rare event that no whales are seen, you’ll receive a return tour voucher valid for life.
